It’s the season of sweets, and while children will soon fill sacks with lots of fun-sized candies, local places offer fancier treats for the person with a more sophisticated sweet tooth.
Here are three locally-owned shops offering festive fare for fall.
Galaxy Chocolates 501 Main St., Sultan
Galaxy Chocolates has been in Sultan less than a year, and it’s already a town favorite. Stop for espresso, ice cream, baked goods, cakes and especially handmade chocolates.
These seasonal chocolates currently featured in the store include peppermint, gingerbread, eggnog, pumpkin, hot buttered rum and nutmeg.

Guilt Free Goodness 14957 North Kelsey St., Monroe
Guilt Free Goodness makes holiday treats available to those who eat gluten-free foods. Owner Dawn Purbaugh prepares daily breads and other baked goods completely gluten-free, and her products appear in other businesses, region-wide.
This year, she and her crew are observing the season with these little chocolate skeleton cookies. (Top) Arrive early; they sell out fast.
Also find cupcakes such as these spider-topped vegan almond joy or cat-crowned cranberry orange examples. (Above)

Sweet Indulgence 19555 U.S. 2, Monroe
Jennifer Poole, owner of Monroe’s Sweet Indulgence, is ready for October with a display of seasonal sweets.
In addition to glass jars with traditional holiday confections by the pound such as caramel corn and candy pumpkins, find cupcakes on Fridays and weekends in holiday flavors.
