Candy into cash

Kids who would rather have cash than candy can turn their Halloween haul into pocket money this year, thanks to a Monroe orthodontist.

For the second year in a row, Richard Chan Orthodontics is offering kids $1 a pound for their Halloween candy, as long as it’s in wrappers.

Kids can bring in up to 10 pounds of candy for sale, and can earn an extra dollar by showing up in costume, and another dollar for bringing in two or more canned food items for the food bank.

There’s no need to forgo sweets entirely; Chan’s office will serve milk and cookies.

The candy will go to military troops, charitable organizations and food banks.

Candy will be collected through Tuesday, Nov. 6, between 2 and 6 p.m. at the office of Richard Chan at 622 W. Main St. in Monroe.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.
