Final fall season sports wrap-up

With the end of State competition for Monroe’s swimmers and volleyball team, the fall quarter sports season comes to a close.

In the post-season, Monroe’s Bearcat football team finished the District Tournament with back-to-back losses to the Mt. Vernon Bulldogs and Jackson High School, then went on to State Tournament as the #2 seed, ultimately losing to Rogers Rams.

The Monroe volleyball team defeated Lynnwood and Kamiak in Districts to head to State, where last weekend, two losses ended their season.

The Sultan Turks football team went to the District Tournament, where Lynden’s competitive team bumped them out of competition.

And in State competition last weekend, Monroe swimmer Cathryn Armstrong took 8th place in the 100 meter freestyle, and Lavinya Yap got 12th place in the 100 meter backstroke, as well as 5th in the 200-meter.

“We had a great fall,” said Monroe High School Athletic Director Brett Wiley. “Our programs and kids have had a lot of success and it was pretty fun.”
