To whom it may concern;
I would like to share with you my thoughts on the Electoral College:
The Washington Republican’s Dilemma
Why haven’t we changed the way the Electoral College works? It was formed to literally elect the president, but now after the formation of parties it’s just the allocated votes to each state’s party’s majority. So what does that mean for our individual vote? Well, unless you live in Ohio, it means it’s pretty useless. What I mean is that, if your party didn’t have the majority of the vote, yours is written off. The popular vote doesn’t decide anything at all. In 2008 Obama won the election with 68% of the electoral votes but only 52% of the popular vote. For a modern democracy doesn’t it seem weird that the winner of an election gets barely half of the votes but wins by such a large margin? With the Electoral College we are not a real democracy, we can’t be one unless each vote counts. Luckily we still have state elections.
