Bicyclist killed in Monroe in hit and run

A woman who was riding a bike in Monroe at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday was struck and killed by a driver who fled the scene.

The woman, who has not yet ben identified, is believed to have been in her mid-50s. She was riding her bike near the intersection of Old Owen Road and US 2 when she was struck. According to witnesses, there was a pickup truck behind another vehicle that was stopped on eastbound US 2. The pickup began revving the engine, then sped around the stopped vehicle, striking the bicyclist. The bicyclist was then hit by two more vehicles as they traveled through the intersection.

The woman has not yet been identified.

A pickup truck that could be the one from the hit and run was found abandoned in the Gold Bar area. It is a stolen pickup, and police are investigating.
