Turk senior, 6’1″ Steve Branham rolls in two of his 12 points in the Turks’ runaway 68 – 51 win over Archbishop Murphy Tuesday evening, Jan. 8, at Archbishop Murphy High in Everett. The Turks rolled onto the Wildcats’ home floor with a fast and loose first half, leading 34 – 31 at the buzzer.
The Turks brought out a “full five” defense in the second half and never looked back. They outscored the Wildcats 20 – 11 in the fourth quarter to race away with the win and move into third place in the conference.
Eight Turks scored, with Sam Cotterill hitting 16 points and Robbie Rappuhn adding 13, and both looped in two three-pointers. Brock VandenEkart led the Turks with 18. Murphy was led by Josh Parafina’s nine points.
In a warm-up to the varsity match, the JV Turks lost a heartbreaker to the Wildcats, 50 – 45 in overtime. The JV Turks tied the game at 43 with 3.6 seconds till the buzzer. In the four-minute OT the Turks fouled, letting the Wildcats take the game at the foul line.
