A swordsman in a painted mask looks down at a scorekeeper for his score in sword competition at Ursulmas, a large medieval fair held at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds on Saturday. The event is hosted by the Sky Valley area members of the Society for Creative Anachronism, or SCA, an international group of medieval history enthusiasts who adopt the dress, names and skill sets of pre-Renaissance people.

Much of the activity at Ursulmas centers around battle skills, but others, such as this spinner, demonstrate crafts and skills common in medieval days.
