Luring incident reported at Monroe park

into a car near a Monroe park has prompted police to warn the community.

Wednesday, Feb. 13, at just before 6 p.m. the Monroe Police Department got a report that two girls, 9 and 11, believed a man had tried to lure them into a vehicle at Sky River Park in Monroe.

The officers spoke to the girls, who said they’d been on the swings when a man got out of a vehicle and said “come here.”

The girls instead left the swings and went to the other side of the park, where they told a family that was there. The family walked the girls over to the nearby Boys and Girls Club, where they called 911.

The girls described the man as tall and slim with blonde hair, probably in his 20s. He was wearing a black jacket or sweatshirt and his vehicle may be a dark tan sedan.

“The girls in this incident are to be commended for practicing the ‘buddy system,’ walking quickly away, finding help to get them to safety and calling 911,” police said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Monroe Police Department at (360) 794-6300. Anonymous information may be left on the department’s tip line at (360) 863-4600.
