Sultan Post Office vandalized

Service at the Sultan Post Office was disrupted Thursday after the building was struck by vandals the night before.

Employees arriving at the Post Office at 8 a.m. called police when they found boxes strewn about and damaged, with some opened.

Police believe the vandal or vandals broke in through an employee area at the back of the building sometime between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday.

Sultan Police responded to the call, but post offices are actually the jurisdiction of the federal authorities, said new Sultan Police Chief Rob Beidler.

“They respond to the scene and they work on the investigation and we share information,” he said.

Early examinations of the scene didn’t yield a great deal of evidence beyond a footprint, but much of Sultan’s downtown is covered by security cameras, and Beidler said those may yet reveal more.

Anyone with information is asked to call (425) 388-6260. Tips can be left anonymously.
