A small price to pay for local hospital services

Dear Sky Valley Family & Friends,

Vote YES on the Levy to save our Valley General Hospital. How many times have we ourselves or someone we know brought their kids to the Emergency for immediate medical attention, imaging and treatment! Recently, my mother in law suffered a heart attack. She was brought to the emergency room at VGH. It was a very stressful evening and I shudder to think how much more stressful it would be to drive down the busy 522 or Hwy 2 to meet a loved one at another hospital. The cost of ambulatory services for that distance would double or triple.

The cost we would pay per year for the Levy would be far less than the cost to travel that distance not to mention the stress it would alleviate knowing we have emergency care in our hometown. I believe our EMT Department has to allot more time for travel and would we need to pay for extra staff at our local Fire Department?

We have friends that work at the VGH. What about their jobs? For my home in the Fryelands, the Levy is only asking me to pay around $30.00 per year. I think most of us pay much more than this at the movies or on coffees per year. I am voting YES on the Levy. Please join me and save our local hospital.

Being an experienced ICU RN I recognize the need for a hospital close by. “Time is muscle” when it comes to the heart. Time is brain tissue when it comes to a stroke. There is the “Golden Hour” for trauma patients in which survival sharply drops off an hour after injury. Immediate treatment needs to be initiated and hospitals are graded on their “Door to treatment” times. I cared for a patient, who was too unstable to even be helicoptered out, who had to have surgery NOW in order to survive. He went home a few days later, instead of to a morturary that day. The skilled staff at Valley General Hospital make a difference in this community, improving quality of life and preserving life when precious minutes count. I for one will be voting YES in April!

As an employee and staff member at VGH, I agree with Janets letter regarding how important that “Golden Time” is. Who wants to hold their loved ones hand for those long moments traveling to an out of area hospital when our hospital is trained and the outcome better then most if treated sooner then later. How do you explain to those family members that if given that precious 25 minutes or less it could have actually saved that persons life. And how it could happen to YOU who may not vote YES on our Levy, thinking that you’d never use us or that we’re not YOUR hospital, but you live in the district to vote.
It could be YOUR family or Best friend in that position of a Life and Death situation. To wonder “If Only they could have been treated sooner” is such a sad memory to hold on to. The amount to pay the extra money is a good dinner out, a pass trip to ski or snowboard, or even a trip to the Movies with the family. It’s not such a big price to pay for a possible Life Saving situation. Please consider strongly to vote YES for our Levy on Tuesday April 23rd, and KEEP our Valley General Hospital in Monroe where it belongs…

Very well put! This message needs to spread to our whole hospital district.

I am in total support of keeping our hospital open. I cant imagine having to travel to Everett or Kirkland during an emergency. I was totally shocked to find out that I only pay $42.00 per year on my taxes. I can certainly afford to pay more and am very willing to.
