Don’t let the gray muzzle on this dog fool you; this “pup,” now in official retirement from Boeing, has a new life as an important part of the East County Senior Center. He offers a paw to shake, a coat to pet and a friendly disposition.
Stryker was given up by his first family and went from the Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to Boeing in 2006. He was trained at Boeing by Chad Olson to inspect planes, deliveries and vehicles, and also served as protection for visiting dignitaries.
Chad Olson is the Team Lead of K-9 Operations at Boeing, where he will take future shelter dogs through the rigors of training as they too become part of the K-9 Security program.
Many adult dogs that wind up in shelters are never adopted. Stryker might have had the same fate had it not been for Boeing’s program, and thanks to Stryker’s service, more shelter dogs will become part of the Boeing security force.
