Monroe 14-year old hockey star, Luke Ormsby, got a chance to show his skills to top teams when he participated in the WHL Prospects Camp held in Anaheim, Calif. earlier this month. The prospects camp is an invite-only showcase of the best 15-year old hockey players west of the Mississippi. Of the 83 players invited to the camp, Luke was one of only five players born in 1999 to be invited.
Luke, raised in Everett, first learned to play the sport at Everett Youth Hockey at the age of 4. Later he joined and played for Sno-King Minor Hockey. Although he currently lives in Monroe, Luke played a starring role with the nationally ranked LA Jr. Kings this past season.
During the weekend Luke centered a line that included players from Arizona and Texas. The weekend’s fast-paced activities culminated with Luke scoring his team’s only goal as he broke away from the defense sending a back-handed shot into the top-right corner or the net.
The WHL Prospects Camp included scouts and representatives from all teams in the WHL including the Everett Silvertips and Seattle Thunderbirds.
