Kids will have a chance to learn the sport of fishing at the annual free kids’ trout fishing day at Lake Tye Sunday, April 28.
Children 12 years old and under can fish for free from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. There are prizes, as well.
The fish will be in a netted area at the south end of the lake, so fishing will be easy. Bring your own fishing gear, but if you don’t have any, there will be fishing gear available for use during the event.
Following the kid’s event there will be an adult fishing derby from 2-5 p.m. with a cash prize of $250 for biggest fish and a bonus prize of $500 for anyone who catches a special “tagged” fish.
The entry fee for the adult’s derby is $10.
The event is sponsored by the Sky Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited, along with support from Qualco Energy, area businesses and local sports fishing clubs. The club is buying $5,000 worth of fish, including a good number of jumbos as large as 10 pounds, to ensure there are plenty of fish to go around.
