Young dancers from the 9th Annual Traditional Pow Wow received an official proclamation from Mayor Robert Zimmerman at the Monroe City Council meeting on Tuesday.
“It is essential that all citizens of the city of Monroe be aware of the importance of Indian education programs and encourage all educational and health organizations to take advantage of free informational spaces in the city of Monroe,” said Zimmerman, reading from the proclamation.
The dancers were joined by Mars Miller, the family liaison coordinator of the Indian Education Center Program for Monroe, Sultan and Snohomish Public Schools.
“We’re really happy to share this with everyone in Monroe,” said Miller.
The 9th Annual Traditional Pow Wow took place on Saturday, May 25 at Monroe High School Commons and included free dinner, fry bread and other snacks, along with different vendors displaying art and other information.
