My wife and I had to call FD 26 here in Gold Bar last Wednesday due to a medical emergency. My wife was having difficulty breathing, and heart issues. Our local firefighters, most if not all volunteers, left their homes and families and arrived at my house eager to help in less than five minutes. It seemed an eternity to me, but my son was watching his watch. When they pulled up I told my wife they were coming through the front door, and she became upset. She had been observing and taking pictures of a nest of robins on the front porch and as sick as she was she became very sad about the baby birds being disturbed. I mentioned this to one of the young firefighters as they arrived, as well as my belief that they should use the front door regardless. He replied, “No sweat, we’ll go through the back door.” This involved extra effort for the firefighters, carrying gear and a gurney an extra 150+ feet to access our living room, no sweat indeed. When I tried to help clear the way I was told to sit down, they would handle it. And handle it they did, quickly identifying the problem and transporting my wife to Valley Hosp. for medical assistance. And by the way, the baby robins are fine too. Thanks Gold Bar Firefighters!
