Microsoft employees Stacia Snapp (left), Mark Galioto (center) and Serder Soysal, all of Redmond and employees of Microsoft, spread bark on a planter bed behind the East County Senior Center Friday.
It was part of a Microsoft Day of Caring Event that brought 30 of the tech giant’s employees to the senior center and the Sky Valley Food Bank across the street to landscape and tend to the food bank’s community garden.
The trip to the senior center and food bank was initiated by Microsoft employee Gail McClellan, who used to live in Monroe and thought of the food bank when the company announced the Day of Caring.
She arranged to bring a crew to the food bank and then noticed the senior center and approached to see about helping there, as well.
The crew ended up spending half the day at the senior center, taking care of some long overdue chores around the place, said Senior Center Director Marc Avni.
“It was all weedy, and now look at it,” he said, smiling at the tidy manicured planters. “It’s amazing what a load of beauty bark can do.”
