An attempt to stop a burglary suspect in Sultan this morning about 6 a.m. resulted in a police chase of the suspect into Monroe. The incident began when police responded to an alarm at the Sultan Waste Station and arrived to find a car with its license plate taped over.
The suspect fled in the car toward Monroe, and Monroe police joined the chase. A spiked strip was placed across the road, and the suspect left his car near Les Schwab and fled on foot.
Police were searching when a nearby business called and reported a drenched man had just come in shivering and was in the bathroom. It turned out the suspect had been hiding in a retention pond until becoming hypothermic.
The suspect, a 34-year-old man, was arrested.
