The Monroe Public Schools’ School Board is in the process of building a spending plan for the new year. To that end, they are hosting “listening forums” on Thursday, April 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the library at Hidden River Middle School, 9224 Paradise Lake Rd., and on Monday, April 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the library at Park Place Middle School, 1408 W. Main St. Everyone is welcome and reservations are not necessary.
At the forums community members will be asked to prioritize the advice and suggestions collected from the Budget Review Committee, as well as share their own suggestions for enhancements and efficiencies.
On February 21 members of the Budget Review Committee spent the day examining 100% of the schools’ operating budget. The committee was made up of parents, community members and staff. Committee members brainstormed suggestions to find efficiencies and enhancements to maintain Monroe’s commitment to students and their successful learning. Their list is on the schools’ website at www.monroe.wednet.edu.
“While the Supreme Court ruling gives public schools hope, there is no guarantee that full state funding will be available any time soon. Public schools must have a balanced budget.” said Dr. Ken Hoover, Monroe Public Schools’ superintendent. “The advice we receive from our community is important in setting and meeting Monroe’s expectations for public schools.”
Those unable to attend may send their suggestions by email to Dr. Hoover at email@example.com, by U.S. mail to the Administration, 200 E. Fremont, Monroe WA 98272 or by calling Dr. Hoover’s office at (360) 804-2501.
Reports of the process will be posted on the district’s website at www.monroe.wednet.edu.
