Until last fall, Patty Robinson, 40, thought she’d gone as far as she would go in her health care career. She’d started out as a nurse’s aide in 1990, then had gone to school to became a medical assistant in 1997. Read story
Monroe bank robber still at-large
A man who robbed Monroe’s Key Bank the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 3, remains at large. A woman going to work at the Key Bank, located in the 200 block of Main Street, was entering at about 8 a.m., an hour before the bank opened, when a man in a dark hooded shirt forced his way in behind her. Displaying a silver handgun, he bound the four women who were working at the time and left them in a back room.

More help coming for flood victims, but won't help all
For most people in the Monroe area, the floods of January are a distant, damp memory. But for some people, including the residents of the Three Rivers Mobile Home Park near the bridge on SR 522 and the residents of the Monroe Motel, the damage is a daily reality.
Mattresses are soaked. Floors are ruined. Insulation is useless. And for many business owners, the extra blow in the middle of an already lean month has been crippling.
