When Boeing was trying to figure out where to build the 787 Dreamliner, Washington State and Snohomish County both bent over backwards to court the company to bring production and jobs. After the state made a series of enticing promises, including tax incentives, breaks on some business costs, and investment in infrastructure and workforce training, Boeing brought the Dreamliner to Everett. Monroe student wins state poster contest

When judges considered several hundred Arbor Day posters entered in a contest by Washington state school kids, the one that came out on top was drawn by Tean-en Chen, 11, of Chain Lake Elementary in Monroe. Now Chen’s poster will represent Washington in national competition in the 2009 National Arbor Day Foundation’s Arbor Day Poster Contest

Monroe teen dies in motorcycle crash

Monroe students and members of the motorcycle community mourned one of their own last week when Monroe High School junior Cameron Klock, 16, died Wednesday in a high-speed motorcycle crash near his Echo Lake home.

“Cameron Klock was one of my best friends,” wrote a young man calling himself ripcamklock on a motorcycle forum Thursday. “We love you Cameron. Ride in peace.”
