As Monroe continues to look for a buyer for the undeveloped part of the North Kelsey Village, a shopping center planned for the area now occupied at one corner by Lowe’s, costs are mounting for the city, but the mayor remains optimistic. The city recently picked up the tab for about $2.3 million in site improvements. And the city also continues to pay interest on about $11.1 million still owing on the land.

But at least one developer is interested in buying the entire site, and the city still hopes its long-held dream of being home to an amenity-rich, town center-style shopping center will still come true. Read story
 
Uneasy Ride: Motorcycle fatalities double; police urge caution, training

A car backs out of a driveway and a motorcycle strikes it. A car turns left in a residential neighborhood and a motorcycle, attempting to pass it, crashes into the driver’s side. A motorcyclist, riding alone, slides off the road into a ditch.

Tychman Slough could become better home for farms and fish

Two miles of side river channel along Ben Howard road, as well as the farms, forest and fields that flank it, are going to be studied for ways to make it a better home for fish. Chinook salmon remains a threatened species in spite of enhanced protections in recent years, and non-profit group Stilly-Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force has won a grant to study Tychman Slough to see if anything can be done there to help.
