Monroe struggles to create affordable homes

Real estate prices may have leveled off, but that doesn’t mean that there enough affordable homes in Monroe. In fact, for families that make the median wage of about $55,000 per year, most homes remain out of reach. So Snohomish County and the City of Monroe are looking for ways to create more affordable homes. Specifically, 100 more affordable homes per year.

Monroe's Last Leaf theatre group turns 10

There is nothing quite like the noise made by a room full of four year olds upon watching a grown-up make a rude raspberry noise and pretend to be an elephant. It is a piercing, shrieking howl of delight, and Thursday it deafened the teachers and staff who’d gathered the kids at Lynnwood Headstart to see a children’s play. Read story

 

Sultan seeks advice from citizens on tax to repair streets
Streets in Sultan have fallen badly into disrepair, and eventually it's going to cost some money to fix them. But rather than impose a tax on the residents, the city is calling a public meeting to ask residents if they are willing to pay extra for car tabs for a while in order to get the streets fixed.
