MONROE:
Elections crowded with newcomers and familiar faces
It promises to be a lively election year in Monroe. Of five offices open for election in Monroe this year, only one candidate will go unchallenged. Only one other will run with just one opponent. The rest will face a primary race to narrow the field to two, then will proceed to the general election. There are some familiar faces in Monroe politics seeking offices, including ethics activist Todd Fredrickson, and some new faces, including YMCA director Patsy Cudaback. In all, 13 people have filed for the five offices open in Monroe. Each candidate was invited to share some information about him or herself for this issue; most did. All were invited to send photos; those who did have them included here. What follows is a brief introduction to the people that will seek your vote this summer and fall. Read story

SULTAN:
Political landscape won’t change much
Three council members who had considered not seeking re-election went ahead and signed up for another term each, and since none have opponents, Sultan’s council will change little through this election season. Kristina Blair, her husband Steve Slawson, and long-time council member Ron Wiediger all decided to file for re-election this year. As recently appointed council member Jeffrey Beeler has also filed to keep his seat, and since no one has opposed him, that means the only change on the council Sultan residents are likely to see is the switch from Bruce Champeaux to political newcomer Samuel Pinson. GOLD BAR:
Beavers only mayoral candidate; six others vie for council
With no incumbents seeking re-election for either the mayor’s seat or any of three open city council seats, the election season in Gold Bar looked a little bleak. No longer. By the filing deadline Friday, one race has three candidates, enough to require a primary run-off, another has two competitors, and candidates have stepped forward to fill the other two open seats. All the candidates who filed were offered an opportunity to give their experience and reason for running, along with a photo. Read story
