A Monroe woman got more than she planned at Fred Meyer last week. She came in for a few groceries, and left with $145,000. Donelda Queen, a caregiver from Monroe, had bought a Hit 5 for the May 31 drawing ticket a few days earlier, choosing the numbers 07-12-24-30-34. Read Story
The Evergreen State Fairgrounds is due for major
refurbishment, but funds too short, county says


For years, the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe has been like the goose that laid the golden egg. Not only is it the only part of the Snohomish County Parks system that pays for itself, but it actually generates revenue, and brings millions annually in economic benefit to east Snohomish County. And only part of that is from the fair itself. All year long, the buildings and grounds generate income from events ranging from miniature pony exhibitions to RV shows. Read Story
