Saturday’s Fair Days Parade in Monroe will include some new entries

By POLLY KEARY, EDITOR

Monroe’s Fair Days Parade, to be held Saturday, Aug. 23, will be about the same size as last year, but will include a few new faces, said Neil Watkins, Director of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce.

Among the new entries will be the Blue Thunder, the Seattle Seahawks Drum Corps. And Cascade High School is entering a 100-piece high school marching band.

Some local favorites are returning as well, including Northwest Latinos Unidos, which twice has been Grand Champion of the parade for their elaborate shows of dance, song and horsemanship. Northwest Latinos Unidos is planning an even more spectaular entry for this year, said Alberto Robles, a lead organizer.

This year’s parade Grand Marshall will be Marie Lotzgesell, Community Connections Coordinator for the Monroe School District, who has also been involved in many community activities. |

It will be her last year in Monroe, this fall she will move to Virginia with new husband Mike Murphy, former assistant superintendent of the district.
Other entries will include floats from the Tulalip Casino and the Marysville Strawberry Festival. “I think it’s going to be another quality parade this year,” said Watkins. “We put a lot of work into it.”
