Gold Bar man in intensive care with mysterious ailment
Cory Zoutte, 38, of Gold Bar, has been on life support at Providence Hospital in Everett for nearly a month, and no one knows why. He was admitted to Valley General Hospital and diagnosed with what appeared to be symptoms of pneumonia on Oct. 27. Read story
Monroe businesses struggle to survive the recession
Survival.
That’s all many Sky Valley retailers are hoping for as the usually-lucrative holiday season approaches. The year has been dismal by any measure. The City of Monroe, which has enjoyed increases in sales tax every year for many years, actually saw a decline in 2008, in spite of the opening of the new Lowe’s Home Improvement store.

Centennial celebrations planned for old Monroe City Hall
The Monroe Historical Society invites the community to celebrate the centennial of the 1908 Monroe City Hall Building at 207 E. Main St. Two events are planned to commemorate the building’s 100-year history. Read story
