House Fire
Snow Day for a Walk Dave, The Sweeper, Hellman makes his way across the tracks near Valley General Hospital Monday morning to keep his appointed rounds as the valley's unofficial maintenance man. Dave Hellman has been policing the sidewalks of Sultan and Monroe for 30 years. Photo by Ken Robinson
Behind the front counter of Art Merchant International, Monroe's only art gallery, is a piece that looks like an alphabet, or hieroglyphic writing, in bas relief in earthen colors. The piece, done by Bothell artist Bob Allan, is called "The Messenger"...

Striking a Chord with his audience

They say behind every overnight sensation there is a decade of hard work, and if so, Monroe's David Jenkins, 20, is poised for fame.
He first started playing guitar at the age of 11, having heard the music of Steven Curtis Chapman, a leading Christian musician whose music Jenkin's father enjoyed. In the next nine years, the home-schooled youth learned to play drums and bass, then taught himself to record his own music on a multi-track recording device, allowing him to play every instrument on his compositions.

Trailer
Trailer rolls over on U.S. 2
An overturned trailer slowed traffic just west of Sultan Friday morning. The driver, who asked not to be Identified, stated that the load on the trailer was too heavy, so when he picked up speed the trailer fishtailed and turned on its side. The accident broke the hitch on the truck as well. Photo by Dan Armstrong
Fire under investigation
Monroe and Sultan Firefighters responded Wednesday to a residential house fire at 25830 Fern Bluff Rd. at about 12:45 p.m. When firefighters arrived, smoke was issuing from the second story windows. The fire was contained and is under investigation by the Snohomish County Fire Marshall's Office. Photo by Dan Armstrong
