Explosion falls to Chinooks 129-127 in OT

The Snohomish County Explosion lost in overtime Saturday night at the Monroe Sports Arena to the Portland Chinooks, 129-127. The Explosion pulled away by seven in the second quarter en route to a 58-51 halftime lead. Chris Keller lit up the Chinooks for 11 first quarter points on 4 of 5 field goals, including three from beyond the arc. Jamal Miller paced the Explosion in the second quarter with 10 points. Chris Weakley led the Explosion with 16 in the first half.

The Explosion came out of the break on fire, torching the Chinooks on a 16-4 run to take 19 point lead early in the half. The Chinooks staged a comeback, outscoring the Explosion 42-26 in the final stanza.
Weakley led six Explosion players in double figures, with 23 points. Donald Watts, after being shut out in the first half finished two assists shy of a triple-double with 13 points 11 rebounds and 8 assists.  Keller and White finished with 19 each, and Jamal Miller added 18.

Three Chinooks scored over 20 points, led by the game-high 29 of Kenny Tate. Marc Williams added 25 points and Larry Smith chipped in 23. Smith led the overtime charge with his three-point shooting. He finished the game 7 of 12 from long range. 

The Explosion added four newcomers to the roster Saturday night. Justin White had the biggest impact, recording one of two double-doubles for the Explosion with19 points and 14 rebounds. The team also welcomed Chris Adams, Tyrell Curry and Troy Gwynn to the lineup. 

The Explosion will look for revenge against the Chinooks as the same two teams return to the Monroe Sports Arena next Saturday night in a game scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. tip-off. The Explosion organization has partnered with Latinos Unidos for an extravaganza of singing and dancing during the half-time entertainment.
